Stitch in Time

I recently acquired three “new” old craft magazines. These three are all Stitch magazines, a local New Zealand product from the late 1940s through the 1950s. I have a good collection of these already. Two of these new numbers contain a “Needlecraft from Readers” section which does not appear in my earlier volumes of the publication. Just as we now like to share images of finished work with others, so too did people 50 years ago it seems. However, while I take a few quick snaps with my digital camera and load them up online in just a few minutes, in the 1950s having a camera and getting an image developed was clearly a lot more expensive and complicated. It’s nice that people took enough pride in their work to make the effort.

I thought I’d share a few of the readers’ submissions, they are interesting snap shots not only of needlework but of history:
Stitch reader's snapshot: child and toys.
Stitch reader's snapshot: pram cover.
I actually have the original pattern for the second item pictured and so I’ve uploaded it in the Babies and Children section.
