Norwegian Mitts Finished

Well, these took entirely too long but they are done now.

Norwegian Mitts finished, in use.

I did have to spin more of the light yarn too and my carding recipe must have been slightly off, because it’s not quite a perfect colour match for the first batch (but hey, you can’t tell right?).

These are warm, really, really warm: with the merino, alpaca and the fair isle making them two layers thick they are super toasty. Autumn has only just begun here so I’ll have to wait a bit to give them a proper test.

I found the pattern reasonably straight-forward. I did reverse the chart picture and print it out again to do the left-hand mitt ‘cos I’m not very good at working backward. And when working the thumb (row 30), I turned the work before casting on the extra stitches. Otherwise everything was easy and error free.

The mittens are great!! Have never checked mittens closely to make sure both were the same color. Wish I could read charts to be able to do them. I make up my own Norwegian sweater patterns because I can’t see a graph.
BTW, Thank you so much!!! for the knitted edging pattern. Hope you can find more people being busy dead to publish more of them.

Thanks Sandi! I’ll be sure to keep an eye out for more edgings for you (I’m sure there are more lurking in my untamed collection).

The mittens are really cool - I like your version better, because they’re fuzzy.
On a side note: My mom just pulled out some old knitting pattern booklets she brought from Germany - from the 30’s and 40’s…some of the stuff in there is an absolute hoot, like “unmentionables”, bras, bed jackets, and kid’s long johns with the back flap and all. Sooo funny!
