Handy

This cute little device is “The “MP” Handy Guide for Knitting & Crochet”.
I’ve often dreamed of a more comprehensive counter than the simple two digit devices that are readily available these days.
This wee vintage tool is quite comprehensive:
- A four and a half inch ruler along the bottom edge.
- A needle gauge down the left hand side.
- And sliders to enable the marking of the number of rows, increases (or decreases) and repeats worked.
And it’s brass - practical and shiny!
Okay mine’s not very shiny, it’s quite tarnished but I’m a little loath to clean it in case I damage the paper insert with the numbers on it. But imagine it new - sparkling beside you, sitting on the arm of your chair as you knit and listen to the radio (no TV in the days this was new).
Does anyone know of such a comprehensive modern device for knitters? A programable electronic counter would be very handy.

Uhm… A comprehensive counter built into a cellphone programming would be VERY nice! ^__^

CountAble for palms is quite nice. But it doesnt come with a ruler & needle gauge.

CountAble does look quite nice but I don’t think I can justify buying a palm for just that.
I can write the program I want but I don’t fancy having to lug my lap top with my knitting, the cogs in my rusty brain and turning though…

That is very cool device. Where in the world did you get it?
At my LYS, the owner says she once sold an electronic row counter to someone who then called back and said it was defective. Apparently, she did not understand that it was not psychic and did not recognize the start of each new row, Tha she had to click it herself…lol.

I got this from our local online auction site. The V&A has one, so there are probably plenty lying forgotten in the UK. NZ and Australia got a lot of product from Britain at the time this was made so it’s no surprise I found one here.
A psychic row counter, now that I would pay good money for!

I would love one of these! You can never have too many of anything to do with knitting.
