Pictures from the Past
I’ve been looking through the Library Of Congress’s Prints and Photographs Online Catalog. It has some great images.
It seems that before women had swifts they had men:

that knitting in groups is no new thing:

and that knitting transcends age and social status:

Hello
My first look at your website found these fascinating photographs. Thank you very much.
I am a keen knitter from Lower Hutt, and have recently joined a Wellington group who meet monthly, so knitters are still active in NZ thank goodness.
Your vintage patterns are certainly worth saving and passing on - actually some look almost familiar - perhaps my mother had them in her collection.
I will try knitting your Norwegian Mitts, but with commercial wool, as my first foray into Fair Isle for many years. Lace knitting has been my more recent venture, with three shawls under my belt now (I found you via the Cobweb Stole from Sigga Sif).
Thank you for your contribution to the knitting world. I will visit you often.
Regards
Diane

Hi Diane,
It’s great to hear from a local! The Norwegian Mitts are so very, very warm I heartely recommend them. Though Wellington doesn’t see the sort of bitter weather we’ve had in the South recently, the mitts will offer protection from those cruel winds you get.
Many thanks for your support.
