Kath’s Bobble Jumper
Ladies and Gentlemen, the lovely and talented Kath:
Looks just like World War II Britain doesn’t?
Here is the scene in vivid Technicolor:
Kath is wearing her version of the Ladies Bobble Jumper (c. early 1940s).
I am so loving the colour she has chosen, let’s take a closer look:
Fantastic!

Guess I’m the first to congratulate Kath on her beautiful sweater! I’d like to make this same sweater. It will be my first sweater as well as my first vintage pattern, so I’m a bit nervous. I’m wondering what type of yarn to use–most fingering weight is 7-8 sts = 1 inch, but the pattern gauge says 10 sts = 1 inch. seems really small! If anyone else has made this, I’d love to hear any insight.

Kath says:
I knitted mine with Bramwell 4ply (from a cone) on size 10 and 11 needles.
Ordinary needles are fine to use, but if you can get vintage 40’s needles
it sort of adds to the joy of knitting a vintage item.
I didn’t do a swatch and went straight for it.
I kept a record of every row I had knitted, inc, dec, how many rows etc
which I found essential and only managed 2 mistakes.
My first attempt also at knitting anything lace!
I didn’t press or block the finished garment other than the arm and neck
bindings.
An absolute joy to knit and very rewarding to wear.
I am size English 10 to 12 and it fitted me perfectly, I would say it would
have fitted a size 14 also as the lace makes it stretch.
I would also say don’t be nervous about knitting this jumper as once you get
into it , it becomes very addictive to knit and easier after a couple of
pattern repeats!
Vintage knitting from vintage pattern’s can be very addictive, Beware !!!!
