Unfaithful
The Model T has been a shade unfulfilling and as a result I have been unfaithful. The first digression I blame Knit Night for. They was all showing off their fingerless gloves and I thought to myself - I get cold hands when I work at the computer, some fingerless gloves is exactly what I need (of course not being so cheap and turning the heater on occasionally wouldn’t kill me either). A very sad little cake of yarn, one of my earliest wheel spinning attempts which was supposed to be hidden in shame, kept falling out of the cupboard and I figured that it might just knit up into some practical mitts for me. So I slapped it on the needles and made up some very simple little things - ugly, but whose going to see them regularly but me.

Of course knitting wool gloves right now was exactly what was needed to bring on some hot weather and I don’t want the things anywhere near me at the moment. Still, good weather never lasts long here so I’m sure they’ll see use soon.
Then there is this fascination I’ve developed with spinning the ultimate sock yarn. I’ve got this feeling that a mix of Romney and a little nylon is probably the thing. Nylon fibre is hard to come by in this neck of the woods but while I hunt for some I thought I’d attempt 4ply cabled yarn for the first time ever (since I’ve heard this is the thing for hard wearing socks). It was a bit of a mission: acres of very fine singles became 2ply easy enough but I underestimated the over plying I’d have to add at that point to make a successful 4ply. I had to send it back through the wheel twice at the 2ply stage - the twist just seemed to disappear into the ether. I did it in the end and I’m very pleased with the results.

That’s a NZ 10 cent coin - 20mm (about 3/4 of an inch) in diameter.
And I’ve been swatching some lace.
Oh, and I just ordered some wool combs, so I guess I’ll have to try those out when they arrive too.
I haven’t bought any vintage patterns in almost a month though - which is a record for me I think. Not for lack of trying of course, there just hasn’t been much about.
Right, I shall go and visit the Model T and knit a round, it’s the least it deserves.

oh, what do i have to do to take your sock yarn class?
will you show me once you have it sorted?
You see sock yarn and its unavailability is the very reason I bought a wheel.
